Nobody can beat Anand in Mainz! After his victories over Kramnik, Ponomariov and Polgar, the Indian won another match in Mainz, his next victim was Alexei Shirov. The match ended with two draws on the last day, in the final game Shirov probably missed a win. The final score is 5-3. It is Anand´s seventh Chess Classic title in total and his fifth in a row. "Two Fingerfehler decided the match, which was in fact very tight", a happy Anand said in th epress conference. |

Svidler can defend his WNCA Chess 960 wordl title! On the last day of the Gerling Match, we saw the first draw of the match. The players played very carefully in the seventh game, but in the last game Svidler had the upper hand. Once again Aronian had troubles with his time. "Aronian played better, I played faster", the Russian smiled after the last game. |

Combined winner of the FiNet Open and the Ordix Open is Zoltan Almasi. He scored 18 points in both tournaments. Alexander Grishuk, Sergei Rublevsky and Alexander Morozevich scored 17.5. Best senior is Vlastimil Hort, best female player Viktorija Cmilyte, best junior Sergei Karjakin. |

Alexander Grischuk wins ORDIX Open, 9,5/11 after
a draw against Morozevich in final round. Seven players have 9 points,
Vaganjan won the second price, Rublevsky is third. The young Russian remains
unbeaten in the Ordix tournaments in 2003 and 2004: 16 wins and 6 draws.

Vishy Anand is leading 4-2 after the third day in his duell
against Alexei Shirov. In the fifth game the Sapniard won a pawn
but the Indian star never thought that he would lose the game. Shirov
once again had problems with the clock and had to agree with a draw. In
the second game of the day, a so called “Fingerfehler” from
Shirov decided the game. Anands comment: “he has played Neg instead
of Bf8. After Bg5 the game was over”. Anand just needs to draw one
of the last games on Sunday to win the Chess Classic for the fifth time
in a row. |

”High level games today”, Peter Svidler and
Levon Aronian had the same opinion about the Chess960 games of the third
day. And black was OK this time: both games were won with the black pieces.
In an exciting time scrable, Svidler completely lost control of the game.
“Levon just found all the right moves”, the Russian smiled.
In the second game of the Gerling Match everything went
well for Svidler. Aronian fought like a lion but with only seconds on
the clock he had to resign. 3-3 after six games in the Gerling match and
everything is possible on Sunday! |

More, more, more! 69 Grandmasters, 44 IM, 43 FM, more than
30% of the players in the Ordix Open are holding an international
FIDE title. After the first day we have six players with a perfect score:
Grishuk, Dautov, Bacrot, Karjakin (picture), Georgiev and Ehlvest. Favorite
Ponomariov already played two draws and the highest seeded player Morozevich
lost one game. Women world champion Antoanetta Stefanova is doing very
well, she has 4,5 points. On Sunday 6 more rounds will be played. The
sixth round starts at 10.00 AM. |

New record number of participants ! 542 players
in ORDIX Open !! In a time where Open tournaments lose players, The Chess
Classic keeps on breaking records. Ruslan Ponomariov is also playing in
the Ordix Open and he will face strong opposition, like Morozevich, Grishuk,
Bacrot, Bologan, Karjakin and many other strong grandmasters. The first
price is 6000 Euro. Before the start of the first round, Ponomariov proudly
showed his new T-Shirt. He supports the Free Bobby Fischer petition of
the Chess Tigers. On the picture you see the ex-world champion with organiser

second day of the Chess Classic Match. The Indian superstar had the upper
hand in both games but could not use his small advantage. With two exciting
draws today nothing is decided yet. Anand leads 2,5-1,5 after four games
against Alexei Shirov. |

Two more white wins today in the Gerling Chess960-world
championship match Aronian-Svidler. Aronian won the first game
of the day, but the Chess960 world champion Peter Svidler bounced back
in the second game to equalise the match: 2-2 after four games. |

Zoltan Almasi, the Hungarian GM, who is playing
for SC Kreuzberg in Berlin, won the FiNet Chess960 Open unbeatenwith
9,5 points out of 11 games. He won eight games and scored three draws.
After seven rounds Etienne Bacrot still had a 100% score, but he could
not keep the murderous pace in the last and final rounds. The French
star had to share second place with Rublevsky, Morozevich, Sadvakasov,
Kobalija, Naiditsch and Tregubov. They all scored 8,5 points. The 27-year
old Hungarian star will look forward to CCM5. He will play for the WNCA
world title next year against the winner of the Gerling Chess960 match

Blitz exhibition: Stefanova shows no mercy! Vishy Anand and Antoanetta Stefanova played a handful of blitz games against VIP´s like Mayor Jens Beutel, Model Carmen Kass and Wolfgang Grenke, one of the sponsors of the Chess Classic. They also played a few games against amateurs. Gentleman Vishy drew one game against the supermodel, but the beauty from Bulgaria showed no mercy: she won all her games. |
